Since ancient times, many witnesses have confirmed the healing and protective powers of Lithotherapy. Figures like Aristotle, Pliny the Elder, and Dioscorides, as well as later ones like Marbode, Albert the Great, and Conrad von Megenberg, all supported the miraculous treatment and prevention of certain diseases through the properties of stones.

During the dominance of the church in Europe, these powers were often disregarded to avoid connections with pagan practices. Nevertheless, Abbess Hildegarde von Bingen (1098 - 1179), an educated individual, reiterated in her work Physica the powers of Lithotherapy and urged more people to benefit from its effects. In her book, she explores the characteristics and healing qualities of about 24 gemstones. Hildegarde believed that the creation of stones, involving both fire and water, imbues the gems with the properties of these powerful natural elements.

Although many stones, quartz, and gems have a long history in lithotherapy, Tanzanite is a relatively recent addition to the practice, simply because it was only unearthed recently. Discovered for the first time in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro in Mererani in 1967, Tanzanite is one of the newest rare precious stones to be found and is predicted to be depleted in the coming decades, making it highly valuable for collectors.

Despite its young age, Tanzanite has nothing to envy from other stones. Recognized for its vivid blue, red, and violet tones, Tanzanite is also esteemed in lithotherapy for its beneficial properties.
